⚠️ Warning Banner - Always Visible at Top

Icon: Lightbulb icon with animated amber/orange gradient background

Before uploading an entire manga chapter, it's highly recommended to test with a single page on the homepage first. This ensures:

  • The source language is correctly detected
  • Translation quality meets your expectations
  • Speech bubble layout is preserved properly
  • Text fits appropriately in bubbles

Quick Test Button: "Go to Single Test" (links to homepage)

Step-by-Step Usage Guide

Step 1: Configure Translation Settings

Before uploading manga pages, set up your translation preferences. These settings will apply to all pages in the batch.

1.1 Select Source and Target Languages

Component: Language Selector (reused from homepage)

Follow the same process as the homepage translator:

  1. Source Language: Choose from 33 options including Auto Detect
  2. Target Language: Select from 16 available target languages
  3. Language Sync: Target language automatically matches your website locale

Pro Tip: For manga, "Auto Detect" works excellently for Japanese, Korean, and Chinese manga.

Note: Unlike the homepage, there is NO translation type selector here. Manga Translator always uses the "Manga Translation" mode optimized for speech bubbles and comic layouts.

Step 2: Upload Manga Pages

The manga translator offers flexible upload options for adding multiple pages.

Method A: Drag and Drop (Recommended)

Icon: Upload icon

The fastest way to add multiple manga pages:

  1. Select Multiple Files:

    • Open your file explorer
    • Select multiple pages (Ctrl+Click or Cmd+Click for individual files, Shift+Click for range selection)
    • Drag the selected files into the upload area
  2. Drop Zone Behavior:

    • The upload area highlights when you drag files over it
    • Drop the files to add them to your batch
    • Files are instantly validated and added to the grid

Tip: You can drag and drop files multiple times to gradually build your batch.

Method B: Click to Browse

Icon: Upload icon

Traditional file selection method:

  1. Click anywhere in the upload area
  2. A file browser opens
  3. Select one or multiple manga pages:
    • Windows: Hold Ctrl and click to select multiple files
    • Mac: Hold Cmd and click to select multiple files
    • Select Range: Click first file, hold Shift, click last file
  4. Click "Open" to add files to your batch

Upload Constraints

  • Maximum Files: 100 manga pages per batch (5x more than standard batch translator)
  • File Formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF
  • File Size Limit: 10MB per image
  • Total Limit: If you already have files uploaded, the system will prevent exceeding the 100-file limit

Error Handling:

  • Unsupported formats are rejected with clear error messages
  • Oversized files display size information and maximum allowed size
  • Duplicate file names are handled automatically

Manga Hint: Upload pages in sequential order (page-01.jpg, page-02.jpg, etc.) for better organization.

Step 8: Handle Errors and Retry

Sometimes manga pages may fail to translate due to various reasons. Here's how to handle them.

8.1 Identify Failed Pages

Visual Indicators:

  • Status badge: "Failed" (red with X icon)
  • Error message displayed on the card
  • No split view preview available

Common Failure Reasons:

  • No text detected in the manga page (blank or illustration-only pages)
  • Image quality too low for OCR (blurry scans)
  • File corruption during upload
  • Temporary server issues
  • Insufficient credits mid-batch
  • API timeout for complex pages with dense text

8.2 Review Error Details

On each failed card:

  1. Read the error message displayed in red text
  2. Hover for full error message (if truncated)
  3. Determine if the issue can be resolved

Error Messages Examples:

  • "No text detected" → Page may be illustration-only or have unreadable text
  • "File upload failed" → Network issue, try removing and re-uploading
  • "Insufficient credits" → Purchase more credits to continue
  • "Processing timeout" → Page too complex, try simplifying or split into panels

8.3 Retry Failed Pages

Manual Retry Process:

  1. For "No text detected":

    • Verify the page actually contains readable text
    • Check if text is clear in speech bubbles
    • Consider using a higher-quality scan
    • Illustration-only pages will always fail
  2. For Network/Upload Failures:

    • Delete the failed page from the batch
    • Re-upload the same file
    • The page will be re-added to the batch
  3. For Credit Issues:

    • Visit Pricing to purchase more credits
    • Click "Resume Translation" after credits are added
    • Pending pages will continue processing
  4. For Complex Pages:

    • Consider using the single Image Translator for better control
    • Try splitting complex double-page spreads into individual pages

Retry Failed Items Button (RefreshCw icon):

  • Automatically re-attempts translation for all failed pages
  • Only appears when there are failed pages in the batch
  • One-click solution for temporary server errors
  • Note: Currently shows but retry logic is not fully implemented (TODO in code)

Tips for Best Results

Manga Organization Tips

  1. Number Your Pages: Use sequential filenames (chapter-01-page-01.jpg, chapter-01-page-02.jpg) for easy sorting
  2. Consistent Quality: Ensure all manga scans have similar quality levels
  3. Same Language: Upload pages from the same manga series that are all in the same source language
  4. Test First: Always test 1-2 pages on the homepage before uploading an entire chapter
  5. Separate Chapters: Process chapters separately rather than mixing multiple chapters

Upload Strategy

  1. Start Small: Test with 5-10 pages first to verify settings and quality
  2. Check Results: Review initial translations in lightbox before uploading a full chapter
  3. Sequential Upload: Upload pages in reading order for easier management
  4. Monitor Limits: Keep track of the 100-page maximum per batch
  5. Split Large Volumes: For volumes with 100+ pages, split into multiple batches

Translation Quality

  1. Manga Mode Optimized: This translator is specifically optimized for manga - always use it instead of the general batch translator for comics
  2. Japanese/Korean Best: Works especially well for Japanese manga and Korean manhwa
  3. Clear Scans: Use high-resolution scans (at least 1000px wide) for best OCR accuracy
  4. Speech Bubble Layout: The AI is trained to preserve speech bubble shapes and positions
  5. Double-Page Spreads: Can handle double-page spreads, but single pages often work better

Download Management

  1. Review Before Download: Check all pages in lightbox before bulk downloading
  2. Download Both Versions: Use "Download All (ZIP)" when archiving chapters for your library
  3. Organized Folders: The ZIP structure automatically organizes originals and translations
  4. Backup Originals: Always keep original manga pages in a safe location before translating

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions

Issue: "Maximum 100 files limit reached"

Solution:

  • Remove some pages from the current batch
  • Process current batch first (50-100 pages), then upload more
  • For larger volumes, use multiple batches (Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc.)

Issue: "Some manga pages failed to upload"

Possible Causes:

  • File format not supported → Use JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF
  • File size too large → Compress scans to under 10MB
  • Network interruption → Check internet connection and retry

Solution:

  1. Note which files failed (check error messages on cards)
  2. Verify file formats and sizes in your file explorer
  3. Remove failed files and re-upload
  4. Ensure stable internet connection

Issue: "Translation is very slow"

Possible Causes:

  • Large batch size (close to 100 pages)
  • High server load during peak hours
  • Complex manga pages with lots of text and panels
  • Network speed limitations

Solution:

  • Use smaller batches (30-50 pages per batch)
  • Process during off-peak hours (late night/early morning)
  • Use "Pause" and "Resume" to manage system resources
  • Check your internet connection speed
  • Close unnecessary browser tabs

Issue: "Translated text looks wrong or doesn't fit in bubbles"

Possible Causes:

  • Incorrect source language selected
  • Low scan quality causing OCR errors
  • Complex or decorative fonts
  • Hand-drawn speech bubbles with irregular shapes

Solution:

  1. Verify source language is correct (try Auto Detect for Japanese)
  2. Use higher quality scans (minimum 1000px wide, prefer 1200px+)
  3. Test with the homepage translator first to verify settings
  4. For artistic or irregular bubbles, expect some layout challenges
  5. Some manual editing may be required for perfect results

Issue: "Speech bubbles are distorted or text overlaps"

Possible Causes:

  • Unusual bubble shapes
  • Very small text in cramped bubbles
  • Double-page spreads causing layout confusion
  • Sound effects mixed with dialogue

Solution:

  1. Try splitting double-page spreads into individual pages
  2. Use higher resolution scans for better detection
  3. Expect that some manual adjustment may be needed
  4. Sound effects may not translate perfectly - this is normal

Issue: "Download ZIP file is empty or corrupted"

Possible Causes:

  • Browser download interrupted
  • Ad blocker interfering with download
  • Insufficient disk space
  • Too many pages causing timeout

Solution:

  1. Disable ad blockers temporarily
  2. Try downloading again
  3. Check available disk space (100 pages ≈ 200-500MB)
  4. Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
  5. Download in smaller batches (use "Download Selected")

Issue: "Lightbox view mode buttons not working"

Solution:

  • Ensure JavaScript is enabled in your browser
  • Try refreshing the page (may lose progress)
  • Close and reopen lightbox
  • Clear browser cache and cookies
  • Update browser to latest version

Credit System for Manga Translation

How Credits Work

  • Cost per Page: 1 credit per manga page
  • Batch Cost: Total pages × 1 credit
  • Example: 50 pages = 50 credits, 100 pages = 100 credits

Credit Display

Before starting translation:

  • Clear indication of total credits needed: "1 credit per image. This batch will consume X credits."
  • Warning if insufficient credits
  • Current credit balance shown in header

What Happens with Insufficient Credits

  1. Mid-Batch Depletion:

    • Translation pauses automatically when credits run out
    • Completed pages are saved with results
    • Remaining pages stay in "Pending" status
    • Can resume after purchasing more credits
  2. Preventing Issues:

    • Check credit balance before large batches (50-100 pages)
    • Purchase extra credits for manga projects (consider bundles)
    • Use smaller test batches first (10-20 pages)
    • Monitor credit usage during processing

Credit Efficiency Tips

  1. Test First: Use homepage for 1-2 pages (2 credits) before batch (50-100 credits)
  2. Remove Blanks: Delete illustration-only or title pages that don't need translation
  3. Bundle Purchases: Buy credit bundles for better value when processing volumes
  4. Track Usage: Statistics panel shows total credits used
